Project #1 Zentangle Drawing

1.  This is a Zentangle Drawing I created using sharpies and cardstock paper.
2.  Prior to beginning this project I researched zentangle designs as well as a variety of patterns and textures that I could incorporate within my drawing.
I used this Pinterest board for ideas:  This board I created gave me a lot of ideas for patterns I could use.  I also pinned some how to draw patterns for some more difficult patterns.  This is also an example of some patterns I used for inspiration.

3.  For this drawing I used some patterns from ideas on Pinterest and I added in my own patterns within some of the shapes to make it more my own.  Since I drew many spheres overlapped in the space and it wasn't as interesting with just the shapes / forms, I decided it needed something more to help tie them all together.   I added a couple baskets and snake like patterned yarn at the top and bottom of the page to balance the composition and make it more detailed and interesting.
 4.  For this project I was able to choose my own goals which were:
to take my time drawing so my designs would be nice and smooth.  I also wanted to try to balance black and white within the paper space and add "form".  I also wanted to come up with some new patterns / designs.  I believe I met those goals during the time allotted for this project.  I did a nice job being careful to not make any mistakes, or when I did I make them into new designs.  I utilized all of the space within the page to make it very creatively interesting and added the element of "form".  The movement in the yarn helps bring your eyes around in the drawing.
5.  I worked very hard on this drawing and I really like how this turned out.  Hopefully I can enter this in the Conference Art Fair. I learned that you need to do some research of ideas and patterns and many times practicing your designs first helps.  I also got better at coming up with ideas, the more times I practiced this technique.  I could improve on combining this technique with another style of art or on a different material other than paper.
6. One zentangle drawing that I saw on line that inspired me with my own art was one that was created by an artist on etsy.  Here is the link to the print:
I like the subject and also how the artist decided to add details to the background space as well.  Something in class I really admire is the clay fish Nicole created.  It has a lot of details in texture and color with the glaze.

Project #1 Proposal - Zentangle Drawing

1.  For my first project I would like to create some Zentangle / Doodle designs.  I will be using cardstock paper and sharpies.
2.  I am interested in practicing this style of art.  My goals for this project would be to take my time drawing so my designs are nice and smooth.  I also want to work on balancing black and white ink within the paper space and include "form" within the design.  I plan to incorporate some more difficult patterns / designs than I have previously used building on my skill set in this area.  To get better at this process I will practice drawing smaller doodles to see what kinds of designs and textures work well with each other.  I am confident that if I practice making marks and coming up with texture samplers, that my final drawing or drawings will turn out quite nice.
3. I will be creative with this drawing incorporating several layers within the final drawing and coming up with a totally different drawing than pictured.  I like some of the designs within this piece, however I plan to do something with circles / spheres adding 3D form.
 4.  I have also spent a great deal of time researching and finding some designs that will help me with my project.  This example has been useful in helping me draw doodles more 3D like and I really like how the artist added color to the center blob like form.
I have pinned lots of great ideas of inspiration on these Pinterest pages:
